Anthem College-Phoenix Donates Locks of Love
Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) November 10, 2011
Students, staff, and faculty from Anthem College-Phoenix donated enough hair to Locks of Love last month to make 31 hairpieces for children who have lost their own hair to illness.
More than 20 volunteers from the campus donated at least ten inches of hair, assisted by stylists from the Tony & Guy salon in Scottsdale Fashion Square who volunteered their time.
“Anthem College has a motto, ‘Anthem for Good’,” says Campus President James Hadley, Ph.D. “This really describes our culture and commitment to give back to the community. The Locks of Love campaign is one of the most passionate and rewarding activities we have participated in.”
Locks of Love is a nonprofit organization that accepts long hair (ten inches or longer) to make into wigs for disadvantaged children under 18 who have suffered hair loss, usually permanent. Most of the children have alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The wigs, made to fit childrens’ smaller heads, help restore their self-esteem and confidence. For more information on how to donate hair or to provide financial support, please visit the Locks of Love website at http://www.locksoflove.org.
Hadley says that the College’s other volunteer work has been involved with include a literacy fair where donated books are distributed at no charge and volunteers “arrests” to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s annual fundraiser.
In August, a group of Medical Assistant students from the College distributed water bottles to homeless people in Phoenix, took vital signs to screen for dehydration, and referred people to local clinics for treatment.
Anthem College-Phoenix provides education and training in healthcare, technology, veterinary technology, and paralegal careers that lead to a diploma or associate degree.
