(PRWEB) May 13, 2007

Roehampton University has selected FibreSpan, the premier provider of private dark fibre networks, to extend its storage area network between dispersed campus sites.

Based on dark fibre, the new network will provide secure, high-speed, dedicated telecommunication links across a geographically-distributed IT infrastructure. The five year contract comprises a multi-core dark fibre network that will link four campuses, with scope for future expansion and additional resilience as required.

The network is due to be deployed in July 2007 and offers the University a highly flexible, reliable and cost-effective way to deliver secure communications between its sites. It will appear as a single transparent network, enabling users to communicate and share applications seamlessly regardless of location.

“Our network provides Roehampton with a solid foundation on which they can run their mission-critical business applications,” comments Robert Bicket, Chief Executive of FibreSpan. “This announcement follows a series of new customer wins and supports our strength in providing unlimited bandwidth campus-wide local area networks which are ideal for educational establishments. The market continues to hold enormous potential for us and presents an opportunity to leverage our successes and our extensive experience.”

FibreSpan has worked with UK academic organisations since 2002 and currently provides private fibre networks to many institutions across the country including those in the cities of London, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Cardiff. Universities are attracted to its fixed price unlimited bandwidth model, with moderate capital costs and low recurrent costs, make it affordable to build high performance private fibre networks.

Roehampton University is based in southwest London and offers a range of academic degrees at undergraduate and postgraduate (including MBA) levels, as well as the opportunity to study for higher level research degrees. Roehampton manages its academic programmes within four educational schools and across four colleges all within walking distance of each other.

About FibreSpan – fibrespan.co.uk

FibreSpan is a fibre solutions company with a national telecommunications licence. It designs, installs, operates and leases private dark fibre circuits, working in partnership with health and education, local authorities and other multi-site organisations. Established in 2001, it is an independent UK national statutory utility, licensed by the DTI and regulated by Ofcom.

It is FibreSpan’s goal to make fibre optic connectivity a viable solution for organisations throughout the UK. In order to achieve this, the company has invested in developing patent-pending microduct technology that is swiftly changing the face of fibre optic deployment – allowing access to bespoke dark fibre connectivity at an affordable and competitive rate.

FibreSpan offer an end-to-end service that includes consultation, network planning, rapid deployment and comprehensive support. Its dark fibre networks offer unlimited bandwidth at a fixed cost for the term of the contract – a genuinely future proof solution. This puts FibreSpan in a unique position to enable clients to have complete control of future bandwidth demand.

Edwardsville, IL (PRWEB) May 11, 2012

Researchers at The NCERC today announced that they have successfully produced ethanol from the cellulosic portion of the corn kernel.

“This research is demonstrated proof of the viability of ‘generation 2.0 ethanol,’” NCERC Director John Caupert said. “By utilizing existing technologies readily available in the commercial marketplace, the NCERC was able to produce a biofuel that builds upon the strengths of conventional corn ethanol and the promise of cellulosic ethanol, thus making bolt-on cellulosic ethanol a reality.”

Caupert added that the potential for cellulosic ethanol has significant immediate and long-term impacts on the biofuels industry generally and the ethanol industry specifically.

“Any of the 211 existing ethanol plants in the United States could be retrofitted with existing bolt-on technologies to produce cellulosic ethanol from corn without the need to build new facilities,” Caupert said. “This translates into opportunities for jobs and economic development, particularly in rural areas.

According to the Illinois Renewable Fuels Association, the ethanol industry provides more than 4,000 full-time jobs with an economic impact exceeding $ 5.29 billion in Illinois alone. There are currently 14 ethanol plants online in the state.

NCERC Assistant Director of Biological Research Sabrina Trupia emphasized the importance of the demonstration in future research opportunities.

“This is a significant milestone with immediate industry impact, but producing cellulosic ethanol from corn bran is also proof that cellulosic ethanol could be produced at NCERC utilizing any cellulosic feedstock,” Trupia said. “From a research perspective, this is only the first step in a very exciting road toward a future of energy security.”

The NCERC credits a series of actions, grants and capital gifts for making the research possible, including the formation of the NCERC Technical Advisory Committee in 2008, the Center’s 2009 Advanced Biofuels Initiative, and two significant capital gift donations: a corn fractionation system (2010) and fermentation suite (2011). These steps were complemented by a research and development grant through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

“It’s the culmination of four years of activity here at the Center, and a shining example of a public-private partnership that works,” Caupert said. “With our expanded fermentation capabilities, the Center is actively seeking industry, academic, and government agency partnerships.”

About the Center

The NCERC at SIUE is a nationally-recognized research center dedicated to the development and commercialization of biofuels, specialty chemicals, and other renewable compounds. Established through federal and state initiatives, with support from the Illinois and National Corn Growers Associations, the Center promotes rural development and economic stimulus and is providing tomorrow’s workforce with the skills needed to meet the challenges of a changing energy environment. Designated as a Biorefining Center of Excellence, the Center assists in developing the technologies needed to reduce U.S. reliance on foreign oil and provide consumers with economically sound and environmentally responsible fuel options. Research initiatives in renewable energy at the Center are supported through grants, contracts and donor contributions.
Dr. Barbara Romzek named new dean of American University’s School of Public Affairs

Washington, DC (PRWEB) March 27, 2012

American University has named Barbara Romzek, an expert in the area of public management and accountability,to be the new dean of its School of Public Affairs (SPA). Dr. Romzek will assume leadership of SPA on July 1, 2012.

Romzek is currently a professor of public affairs and administration at the University of Kansas. Her academic research focuses on government reform, contracting, and network delivery service delivery.

“Dr. Romzek’s record and standing within the academic community is a welcome asset that will build upon an impressive SPA foundation created under the leadership of Dean William LeoGrande,” said Provost Scott Bass in announcing the appointment. Romzek also possesses a wealth of administrative experience in higher education and most recently served as interim senior vice provost for academic affairs at the University of Kansas. Additionally, she has chaired the Department of Public Administration and served as associate dean and interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts.

A recognized figure in the world of public affairs, Romzek is the co-author of three books and over forty journal articles, book chapters, and other publications. She recently wrote two chapters on contracting: “The Tangled Web of Accountability in Contracting Networks,” Accountable Governance Problems and Promises (2011) and “The Promises, Performance, and Pitfalls of Government Contracting,” Oxford Handbook of American Bureaucracy (2010).

The dean search announced last fall outlined the qualifications required to lead American University’s top-ranked School of Public Affairs (SPA), which was founded in 1934 and is Washington’s oldest school of its kind. SPA boasts 90 full-time faculty members and more than 1,800 students. Today, SPA includes three departments: Public Administration and Policy; Government; and Justice, Law and Society. SPA has four undergraduate degree programs of which political science is the most popular in the Department of Government. There are seven professional masters programs, extensive executive education programs, three doctoral programs, and ten research centers including the Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies, the Women & Politics Institute, Center for Democracy & Election Management, and the Center for Environmental Policy. U.S. News & World Report America’s Best Graduate Schools (2013) ranked SPA as the #8 Master of Public Administration program and the #12 school of public affairs.

Romzek served on the faculty at the University of Kansas since 1979 when she began her teaching career there as an assistant professor, and served as a professor of public administration from 1995 until the present. Romzek also served as a guest scholar at the Brookings Institution in 1995. She holds a BA from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan; an MA from Western Michigan University; and PhD from the University of Texas at Austin.

Romzek succeeds Dean William LeoGrande who will return to teaching in SPA.

American University is a leader in global education, enrolling a diverse student body from throughout the United States and nearly 140 countries.

Hosted by PresenceLearning (http://www.presencelearning.com), the leading provider of live online speech therapy services to K-12 students, the webinar will take place on Friday, May 18th at 1:00 pm ET. To register for the webinar, visit http://pages.presencelearning.com/spedahead2

By attending the webinar, participants will learn the basics of UDL implementation and how to incorporate AT tools from the initial phases of classroom design. In addition, presenters will discuss how to apply the AT toolkit concept to specific school and classroom needs, provide examples of how AT tools can provide access to the general education curriculum for students, and help attendees understand the roles of the special educator in promoting the application of AT toolkits for curriculum support.

Headquartered in Harlem, Ballroom Basix™ exposes inner city kids to the joy and etiquette of social dancing, enabling student to dance — rotationally and respectfully — with one another regardless of shape, size, ability or popularity, thereby fulfilling its motto: “making manners matter…one step at a time!”. Sid is committed to the expansion of this non-competitive model so that no student feels rejected or excluded. Sid and Gayle donated the winning proceeds from their 2011 USA Tango Championship to Ballroom Basix™.

Coldwater, MI (PRWEB) April 01, 2012

Adya Inc. founder, Matthew Bakos and President/COO Dennis Babjack, industry leaders in water quality, announced the addition, effective immediately, of businessman and entrepreneur Fred Foster of Jackson, Michigan as CEO of Adya Inc. Adya currently has distributors in the United States, Europe, Canada, Africa, and New Zealand, with new contracts currently being reviewed for Australian and Asian markets.

Foster was an executive for an international medical supply company. During his tenure, he helped to take this company from a $ 4 million operation to a $ 74 million global entity. He will bring his wealth of experience, knowledge, and leadership to help expand Adya’s business base and market share in the world.

Foster was the founding principal of two private Christian schools. Eastern Michigan University had offered him two teaching fellowships in the mathematics and logic departments upon graduation, however, he chose the title of “teacher,” and went on to teach every grade from kindergarten through university. Fred takes much of his spiritual strength and purpose from his family. His wife, Sylvia, is a registered nurse. They have three sons, one an ordained minister in Jackson, another a professional musician with the Lansing and Jackson Symphony Orchestras, and a third son working as a foreign language instructor in Falls Church, VA.

Adya Inc. leads the way in ionized mineral concentrates used for water purification, “live” mineralized drinking water, agriculture, and waterway cleanup, to name a few. Foster shared, “Adya Clarity is currently trademarked in the U.S. and Canada and being trademarked in five European countries. Plans are being implemented for enlarging our distribution, bottling, and warehousing centers in Amsterdam, the Netherlands,” Foster said. “Adya Clarity received two Canada Health Natural product ID numbers required for distribution in Canada.”

Foster explained, “Adya Inc. just added a Chicago distribution center for concentrates only, with plans to add a similar facility in Europe to support the growth and expansion of private labeling and other rebranding opportunities. “The expansion of our Adya Clarity customer base the last two years in the U.S. and Canada perfectly positions our products to take off worldwide. Adya Inc. just moved into a new 17,000 square foot facility which will contain a multiline bottling operation and fulfillment center. The facility will be GMP certified to meet FDA requirements for U.S. and worldwide distribution.”

Sharon Fernandez has also joined the Adya executive team as Chief Administrator. She brings 25 years in finance and information technology to Adya Inc. as well as program management skills. Her passion is to work with Matt Bakos and Fred Foster’s vision to make Adya’s Living Waters accessible to non-profits and nations responsible for delivering good water to the world’s people. Her expertise in the non-profit realm and virtual team collaboration will also help to move the company forward in new and exciting ways, leveraging the integrative work of Adya Inc. with Living Waters for Non-Profits, a planned new Adya venture.

Sharon worked ten years as an executive technical assistant with the Environmental Research Institute of Michigan (ERIM) from which she served as Principal Investigator, architecting the team and workforce training proposal to bid and win a $ 20,000,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. The Adya team’s goal is to repeat this win, finding investors and soliciting funding for Christian mission work bringing good water to areas hard hit by natural and man-made disasters.

Fernandez and Foster got Matt Bakos’ attention in part due to their years-long devotion to Christian mission work and their shared desire to bring good water to those most in need of it.

Rose Goras, a member of the Adya founding team, has been named as Adya Clarity Marketing Brand Manager. “Her history with Adya Inc. makes her the perfect candidate to manage brand information and marketing,” said Babjack. “Rose has experience working with TV, radio, and the Arts in western Michigan and Ohio. She will be instrumental in marketing and management of the Adya Clarity brand.”

Foster continues, “The additions to the management team will guide us in managing the rapid growth while helping to identify the many anticipated new uses of the concentrate as an ingredient to counter the rapid deterioration of water quality, along with providing new untried solutions to water shortages. The potential of climate change to increase wild weather and spikes in natural disasters presents yet another opportunity for Adya Inc. The disaster preparedness market is developing rapidly, along with the Survivalist/Prepper’s interest in being ready for any contingency. Water issues are at the core of all of these,” said Foster.

“Adya Inc.’s mission, along with its Distributors, has always been to teach the world about good water and the positive benefits it brings. In doing so, we will not only open new opportunities for the company – but together we will apply our considerable combined energies and talents to bring good water to a world sorely in need of it.”

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) April 21, 2012

Dropps® – the eco-friendly brand that offers consumers a 100 percent zero waste liquid detergent and fabric softener choice, has one message on Earth Day: Go green or go home!

Or, just do both—with Dropps!

If you haven’t heard, Dropps has started a trend in the world of eco-sound laundry.

Just last year, Dropps partnered with TerraCycle®, an international upcycling pioneer, to launch the Dropps Laundry Detergent Pouch Brigade through http://www.terracycle.net. Thereafter, launderers near and far have put their purchases to good measure. It’s easy. Send empty Dropps packaging to TerraCycle using the pre-paid shipping labels downloadable online. The empty pouches are then recycled into a variety of useful products—think coin pouches and laundry bags—but that’s not all. For each empty Dropps pouch, the customer receives two points that can be used to either buy a charity gift, or convert to cash for the charity or school of the customer’s choice! Dropps has not only found a solution, but it has eliminated waste as well.

Dropps’ bold switch from giant jugs to dissolvable pacs has proved successful in minimizing the green footprint of its consumers. Take the composition of Dropps Laundry Pacs, for example: The tiny pacs are biodegradable and safe for septic tanks—not to mention free of phosphates, chlorine and NPEs. Unlike many of its competitors, Dropps uses a water-less formula that is 6Xs concentrated, allowing the brand to save millions of gallons each year! The smaller, recyclable Dropps packaging requires fewer delivery boxes, thus saving millions more trees, too. These lighter deliveries lead to reduced gasoline usage—so say goodbye to greenhouse gas emissions. All Dropps Laundry Detergent Pacs have been approved by the EPA’s Design for the Environment program (DfE), which recognizes products with safer chemistry. It doesn’t get any greener than that!

Even Dropps Fabric Softener Pacs® offer relief for the eco-conscious. Finally, there is a fabric softener alternative created with all-natural minerals! Forget clogging fibers with an icky coating; Dropps Fabric Softener Pacs flow through delicate fibers, leaving fabrics light, breathable and fresh from wash to wash. Available in Lavender, Wild Orchid and Orange Blossom scents, the mineral composition is nothing short of unique—keeping towels absorbent, athletic wear wickable and infant clothes flame-retardant. Convenient, green, innovative; it’s just the Dropps difference.

Have you made the switch yet? This Earth Day, go green or go home. Please visit http://www.dropps.com for more information.

###

About Dropps®

The Dropps brand redefines convenience in the laundry category as a pioneer of easy, sustainable living. With a 6x concentrated DFE approved liquid formula, the “toss and go” dissolvable pacs eliminate the heavy, sticky jug from the laundry routine, reducing the traditional laundry detergent footprint that results from the unnecessary use of water, plastic and energy. For more information, please visit http://www.dropps.com.

About TerraCycle®

TerraCycle Inc. is an international upcycling company that transforms difficult-to-recycle packaging into affordable, eco-friendly products. Since its launch in 2001, TerraCycle has expanded its collection and reuse of non-recyclable post-consumer waste to over 30 major brands in the U.S., while its international growth continues. The waste is collected through TerraCycle’s Brigade® programs, which are free fundraisers that pay schools and non-profits for every piece of waste they collect and return. For more information, please visit http://www.terracycle.net.
